Dead Space is challenging enough, so we prepared this spoiler-free Survival Guide
for Beginners. These advices are general enough but still useful.
Though, you would discover all that by yourself during the game,
but we wanted to reduce your confusion in the beginning of it.
If you already beat the game or after facing the necromorphs you aren't
afraid of spoilers anymore, then head directly to our 'Cheats and Spoilers' section.
Dead Space Survival Guide for Beginners
(It's spoiler free- we're keeping general tips and hardcore spoilers separately,
so your adventure won't be ruined!)

For starters, normal difficulty mode is hard enough, especially for the first play-through.

For a navigational line to the next objective,
press R3.
(You can't get really lost in Dead Space which is a good thing)

Square or Blue button is for
Quick Health- remember that even in your sleep!
Save Stations (with a glowing photo icon)- this is where you save your progress.
Use them as often as possible!

Though
don't make too many save files, otherwise it will be difficult to find the
latest one. That's a little bug but quite a tedious one- the sorting by date/time
is somehow broken. So I would recommend keeping 3-5 save files and overwriting them
in a loop, so it would be easy to find the latest one.

Collect all items and save your progress before pressing any important buttons-
make your guess, how usually it ends up :P

Listen to the incoming comms carefully. And
when you hear 'RUN', believe me, better just RUN

Well, if you think that dead bodies are supposed to lie still,
then think again. Everything's possible in Dead Space!

Store extra items in your safe which is accessible through a store
Don't waste or throw away Health, Stasis or Oxygen packs- store them in your safe when you can.
You'll definitely need MUCH if this stuff later in the game!

Don't forget that Stasis isn't only for solving puzzles- use it to
slow down tougher enemies too.
Though, bear in mind that later in the game Stasis Stations are very rare
Use Stasis for mini sport games, especially if you want trophies-
you can get them for reaching max level in a game.

Don't be afraid using Kinesis as much as you wish- it's infinitive!

Smash all the boxes and search all the lockers for ammunition and other items.
Careful exploration is the key to your survival- there are lots of hidden items in
other unexpected places. Your map is your best friend too-
check it often if you don't want to miss any room.
Look carefully for schematics if you don't want ending up with only one weapon (Laser Cutter)
and Level 1 Suit. When you enter a store, all found schematics will be uploaded automatically.
Powers Nodes are for upgrading your rig and weapons at Upgrade Benches.
Don't use them for unlocking sealed doors-
the bounty usually is not worth of such a sacrifice.
Just to calm down your curiosity- these are usual rooms with few extra, but not really special items.
The suit is the most essential for your survival- upgrade it as quickly as possible.
Extremely useful are, of course, health capacity (Power Nodes) and inventory slots
(Schematics with Suit Level Upgrades).
In some areas you'll be more than happy with your upgraded air capacity too.
You can add up to 4 more health bars using the power nodes.
You can't max-out all your equipment and weapons during your first play-through,
so concentrate on your rig and plasma cutter

There are no torches in Dead Space. Instead use your weapons- it lights up an area quite nicely while you're aiming.
Plasma cutter will be the most useful in the most boss fights, so have it all the time with yourself

Don't forget to test
secondary weapon modes (R2 while aiming)- they are more than useful.
One of my most favourites is Line Gun Secondary- time bombs
Keep your weapons fully loaded all the time, so you don't waste your time for reloading in critical situations
Don't be afraid to reload your weapon when it's not empty-
you won't loose any single unit of ammunition (thanks, game designers!)

If you want to use your heavy earned unlockables,
then load a
very special save file- 'GAME CLEARED'. Otherwise if you would start
from a very scratch (and with nothing, of course).

And the final advise- if the game becomes too tough for you,
download a level 5 suit and/or enhanced weapons from PSN or XBL. That's no cheat, that's a feature!
