Step-by-step PC Gamepad ConfigurationIf your PC Gamepad doesn't work with Dead Space in a correct way,
don't panic- you can set your own custom configuration.
And it's no big job- it will take you only 5 minutes to modify
'joypad.txt' and set your preferred behaviour for each button and joystick.
Just follow our simple 4-step guide!
Step 1- Prepare the config file
You'll find the example file 'joypad_example.txt' in
'My Documents\Electronic Arts\Dead Space'. Use this file as a basis-
copy it or rename as 'joypad.txt'
Step 2- Finding values of buttons and joystick axis entries
To change the behaviour of a gamepad, you'll need to change the
value for the button and joystick axis entries.
To find the values for these entries, go to the 'Game Controllers'
item in Control Panel (the gamepad should be connected to PC at this point).
Then select the gamepad from the 'Installed game controllers' list
and click the button 'Properties'. The Properties window will display
the number of each of your gamepads buttons and names of joystick axes.
Step 3- Customising 'joypad.txt'
Buttons must be assigned a value of 'Button.#' where # is the number
of the button.
For joystick axes, they must be assigned a value from the following list:
X-Axis
Y-Axis
Z-Axis
Z-Rotation
Throttle
Rudder
X-Axis.Inverted
Y-Axis.Inverted
Z-Axis.Inverted
Z-Rotation.Inverted
Throttle.Inverted
Rudder.Inverted
This list corresponds to the common axes and their variants
(like flipped or inverted) that are used by game pads.
Step 4- That's it, Survivors!
After setting all the values and saving the document as 'joypad.txt',
simply start the game Dead Space and the configuration will be loaded
automatically. Don't be afraid to experiment- in case of a mistake,
that button or axis will be simply ignored. Good luck!
